Revision of Policy – 3107.10 Students and Personal Electronic Devices
New York State has enacted a bell-to-bell cell phone ban in K-12 schools, restricting the use of personal internet-enabled devices during the school day. This means phones must be powered off and properly stored from the moment a student enters the school building until they leave. The ban aims to reduce distractions and promote mental well-being by creating a distraction-free learning environment. As required by Education Law § 2803, this policy has been revised and now prohibits student use of internet-enabled devices during the school day (including all classes, homeroom periods, lunch, recess, study halls, and passing time) on school grounds.
